Our Beliefs
-
We believe the Gospel is the power of God that brings salvation to everyone who believes.
-
We believe the Bible is the inspired word of God.
We believe that “all scripture is given by inspiration of God” (II Timothy 3:16-17). We believe the Bible is composed of 66 (Canonical) books including 40 different writers writing over 1500 years, yet it has one consistent storyline running throughout. We understand the whole Bible is inspired in the sense that holy men of God were moved by the Holy Spirit to write the very words of Scripture. We believe that in the original manuscripts the Bible was without error in every part--historical, poetical, scientific, geographic, etc.--and that it is the final authority in all matters of faith and conduct.
-
We believe God exists in three persons - The Father, The Son and The Holy Spirit
We believe that the Godhead eternally exists in three persons--The Father, The Son and The Holy Spirit--and that these three are one God, having precisely the same nature, attributes, and perfections. God is perfect in holiness, infinite in wisdom, measureless in power and beautifully balanced in all of His attributes. We believe that a correct understanding of God is a prerequisite to a correct understanding of all other things.
-
We believe Jesus Christ is the Son of God who died for the forgiveness of sins.
We believe that Jesus Christ is God’s only begotten Son, conceived of the Holy Spirit, born of the Virgin Mary, sinless in His life and sufficient in His sacrifice on the cross. We acknowledge His intercession at God’s right hand. We believe that by His death on the cross sufficient payment was made for the sins of the world, and that whoever believes in Him will be saved. We believe in His bodily resurrection, His ascension into Heaven, His high priestly position in Heaven for His people, and His personal, visible, return to this earth to reign in peace and righteousness for a thousand years.
-
We believe the Holy Spirit dwells in every believer.
We believe that The Holy Spirit, the Third Person of the blessed Trinity, though omnipresent from eternity, took up His abode in the world in a special sense on the Day of Pentecost. We believe that He dwells in every believer, and by His baptism, unites every believer to Christ in one body. As the Indwelling One, He is the source of all power and all acceptable worship and service. We believe that He is the regenerator of all who believe in Jesus Christ as Savior, and that at the moment of regeneration, He also indwells, anoints, seals and baptizes. The filling of the Spirit is available to every believer who will submit to His control over their life. We believe that He continues to bestow upon believers spiritual gifts for serving and for speaking, but that the sign gifts were for a specific purpose and a specific time. Ephesians 2:20)
-
We believe everyone is guilty of sin and that we all need salvation by grace through faith.
We believe that all men by nature and by choice are sinners; that man was originally created in the image and after the likeness of God; and that he fell through sin, and as a consequence of his sin, lost his spiritual life, became dead in trespasses and sins, and became subject to the power of Satan. We believe that every person born into the human race, with the exception of Jesus Christ, is lost and in need of the salvation which God has provided through faith in Jesus Christ. We believe that the imperative of Jesus Christ, “You must be born again” (John 3:7) applies to all men and that, “God so loved the world that He gave His only Begotten Son that whoever believes in Him shall not perish, but have eternal life.” (John 3:16)
-
We believe in God’s faithfulness to keep believers eternally secure.
We believe it is the privilege of all who are born again by the Spirit through faith in Christ, as revealed in the Scriptures, to be assured of their salvation, and that this assurance is not founded upon their own fitness or feelings but wholly upon the testimony of God in His written Word. We, also, believe that all true believers everywhere, once saved, shall be kept saved forever by the power of the Father, by the position of the Lord Jesus in heaven making intercession for us, and by the presence of the Holy Spirit by whom we are sealed and eternally made secure (Ephesians 4:30).
-
We believe all those who trust in Jesus Christ as Savior and Lord belong to the Church.
We believe that all who have trusted in Jesus Christ as Savior are members of the Church, which is the body and bride of Christ, which began at Pentecost and is completely distinct from the nation Israel. We also believe that every member of the church in its organism form should be identified with the Church in its organization form. We believe that the local church is committed to the two ordinances of baptism and the Lord’s Supper. We believe that baptism and communion are both for believers only and that baptism is by immersion in water. We believe that the two primary ministries of the Church are evangelism and edification, and that all other activities should fit into these ministries, and that every believer should become involved in the process of being “equipped for the work of the ministry for the edifying of the Body of Christ” (Ephesians 4:12). We believe in the imminent return of Christ for His Church. We believe that each church is independent, autonomous, and must be free from interference by any ecclesiastical or political authority, and that Church and State are to be separate.

We believe the Bible’s authoritative truth over the meaning of marriage and sexuality.
We believe that the term "marriage" has only one meaning, and that is marriage sanctioned by God which joins one man and one woman in single, exclusive union, as delineated in Scripture. We believe that God intends sexual intimacy to only occur between a man and a woman who are married to each other. We believe that God has commanded that no intimate sexual activity be engaged in outside of a marriage between a man and a woman. We believe that any form of sexual immorality, such as adultery, fornication, homosexuality, bisexual conduct, bestiality, incest, pornography, or any attempt to change one's sex, or disagreement with one's biological sex is sinful and offensive to God. We believe that in order to preserve the function and integrity of the church as the local Body of Christ and to provide a Biblical role model to the church members and the community, it is imperative that all persons employed by Northgate Church in any capacity, or who serve as volunteers, should abide by and agree to this statement on marriage and sexuality and conduct themselves accordingly. We believe that God offers redemption and restoration to all who confess and forsake their sin, seeking His mercy and forgiveness through Jesus Christ. We believe that every person must be afforded compassion, love, and forgiveness through Jesus Christ. We believe that every person must be afforded compassion, love, kindness, respect, and dignity. Hateful and harassing behavior or attitudes directed toward any individual are to be repudiated and are not in accord with Scripture nor with the doctrines of the Church.
